Cat pee OS cleaning remedy?

our neutered she cat is peeing on my son's quilt, usually a day or two after it has been washed. Any ideas if theres anything I can spray on it to deter her, such as vinegar or eau de cologne?

  • Keep her out of the room. I am assuming here he uses his quilt in his room. If not could you buy him a fleece blanket to use round the house?

Once a cat has decided on a loved place to pee they tend to be dedicated to that spot.

We are lucky the current 7 don't pee. We have had previous cats that did, and we never found a way to stop it other than removal of item/cat from the same area.

I would also consider a visit to the vet if this is a frequent thing. Sometimes cats pee in odd places that can be caused by medical reasons.

  • Yep...would agree that keeping them out of the scene of crime area is the only effective way! A couple of mine had a wazzing on bedding fetish :( but only on the same one out of three beds..... just had to keep them out of that particular bedroom

Try not to use anything pine scented - my vet maintains that they think that this is a competitive smell and will try to mark their territory even more

  • do you just have 1 cat?

i have 5, the rule is 1 litter tray per cat and we find without at least 2 they do go elsewhere.

they really hate the smell of zoflora disinfectant though so worth washing then using some of this.

  • Gosh you have had bad luck. We've never had more than 3 trays. And that is only because of the size of some - they can pee a lake! lol. But we don't have terratorial issues within this lot. Mind you we have 2 from th e same litter and 3 that shared the same breeding room and then cage at the shelter. So that is a great advantage.

We've never found any disinfectant to either encourage or discourage ours. We have used it in litters, as well as bleach. No smell or disorientation problems.

Cats are a law unto themselves.

  • As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll move it to the Pets Board to see if the experts there can help you more with deterent remedies :)

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Firstly you need to wash your bedding in Biological liquid. This will get rid of the 'wee smell'. Even if you cant smell it, your cat probably can. You can wash it in bio and then again in non bio if you're worred about skin reactions etc. The enzymes in bio liquid or powder destroys the wee smell that non-bio liquid just wont shift. (to your cat)

Secondly, does the cat in question ever pee in the tray or just on the bed? The reason I ask is that sometimes cats with a water infection can want to go elsewhere other than the tray because they think its the tray thats making it sting. IYSWIM. So a vet check up may be needed to rule that out.

Bleach wont deter a cat from weeing in the same place. Bleach has ammonia in it and to the cat it'll just make the area smell even more like the place they should be going!!

Biological washing powder like someone mentioned (breaks up the pee smell enzymes), don't use bleach (again mentioned) and trying to pre-empt what's causing it worked for us - my normally very well house trained cat tends to express her displeasure at things by peeing on piles of clothes on the floor mainly... so we never leave piles of clothes on the floor, on occasion when really indignant she's gone and marked on the bed - so we don't let her into the bedroom when we're not there... problem solved basically in our case.

I've got some stuff my mum got from Bettaware I think it was (was back in the days when we had relatives doing it so kind of HAD to buy something on occasions) that removes the smell very well as well.
