Hi,

Have just checked online to enter my meter reading, but something strange has happened to the readings they all seem mixed up.

The reading which used to be called boost is now called night/evening and night/evening is now called weekends ? ,whats that all about.Weekend electric?
Anyone else with heatwise checked their account to find anything strange with it.

Cheers
Steve

    Hi Steve

I'm not aware of any particular change with the Heatwise tariff. However, descriptions are sometimes modified.

The important thing is to make sure the readings you enter correspond with the particular register on your meter and are in line with previous readings.

For a Heatwise meter with Economy 7, the registers are as follows.

    1 - Normal Day.
    2 - Normal Night.
    3 - Boost.
    4 - Heatwise Afternoon.
    5 - Heatwise Night/Evening.

The Heatwise Night/Evening register is sometimes called Evening/Weekend.

The unit rates for registers 4 and 5 are identical so it will not affect the charges whatever the description.

I have to say, though, I can see why this is confusing and will feed it back.

Sorry about the confusion Steve but hope this makes things a little clearer. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

    Hi m0j00,

Malc isn't here at the mo, I hope you don't mind if I try and help.

I think it would be best for me to take a look at your account, as the information here feeds back to your online account and I will be able to see the information.

If you would like me to do this, send me your details to the email address in my profile page and I will have a look :D

    Hi Keith

Just thought I'd give you a bit of info about the Heatwise meter at your property.

Heatwise is specifically designed for all electric properties with storage heaters and is only available in the East Midlands region. They work with either a single rate or Economy 7 meter.

They give 10 hours of storage and water heating per day at a cheaper off peak rate.

The Heatwise unit sits alongside a standard Economy 7 meter/single rate meter. In total, there will be either four (single rate) or five (Economy 7) different registers.

To take advantage of the cheaper, off peak rates, the Heatwise unit will be wired directly into the water/heating circuits at your property.

Heatwise automatically switches on and off your storage heaters/immersion water heater during set times at night, during the afternoon and in the evening.

This is done via radio waves sent out by masts across the East Midlands region. It's not possible to change the times and they will turn on and off at the same times each day.

If you give us a call, we'll be happy to tell you the actual times your Heatwise is active. Alternatively, drop an email to the address in my Profile and I'll find out for you.

All the heating/immersion heating used during the set off peak times is recorded through Heatwise. This is shown on your bills as Heatwise afternoon (Rate 4) and Heatwise evening (Rate 5).

All other usage for general household appliances, lighting etc, goes through the standard Economy 7/single rate meter. This is shown as Day (Rate 1) and Night (Rate 2) in the case of Economy 7.

Heatwise also has a boost function. This gives you a one hour boost should you require extra hot water outside of the set Heatwise times. This is recorded separately (Rate 3).

As Heatwise is wired into the heating/water circuits to take advantage of these off peak rates, we only have the one tariff available.

It's possible to change the meter to a more conventional single rate/Economy 7 type. This will give access to a range of other tariffs both with us and other suppliers.

However, changing the meter may have implications for the heating/water heating at the property. It may also involve having a certain amount of remedial electrical work done.

Therefore, I always recommend customers arrange for an independent approved electrician to check out the set up first.

The cost of the electrician and any remedial work is the responsibility of the customer. We're also currently charging £51.06 (including VAT) to change a meter.

I'm not sure which of the other suppliers support Heatwise. Due to the specialist nature of the set up, I'm afraid, you'll need to speak to them directly as Heatwise doesn't appear on the comparison sites.

Hope this is useful Keith. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

Any supplier that can support meters such a 3 rate E10, Redring Boiler, Warmwise, Supertariff, etc will be able go support heatwise. Some suppliers can support it but don't want the business as they harder to manage.

Aside from Eon who have always has Heatwise in their old region prior to deregulation, npower own the old Northern Electric region which was supertariff, EDF are from southern regions that have Warmwise & 3 rate E10, the Scottish ones have similar set ups...so there are some you can contact.

My work colleague is on heatwise in a dormer bungalow and her last bill was around £1200 for the year. Does this seem really excessive to anyone else? I live in a two bed flat and my annual bill was £600!

Heatwise or E10 tariffs are not worth it especially if you have gas as well. You would be better off an a standard tariff and switching to the most competitive tariff available. For example the heat rate on E10 is about 9 pence per kWh but the best standard rate on the market for all units is 10 pence per kWh. The standing charges are higher on Heatwise/E10 making it almost never better than standard. Then you can use the heating whenever you want 24 hours a day. Call it E24 if you like.
