My DD is away to see a new pup, 10 weeks old. We have a collie x which is 11 years old and I an now concerned about how they will get on.
If my DD does not get the dog she is away to see she will be getting one as has been looking for a few weeks. We did look after another dog for a few months before while the owner was ill and they got on ok but this was when our dog was younger and now sure how she will react now with a small opup ( yorkie )
Any tips ? Our dog is a !!!!! and new pup is a dog.

We have a 12 year old female German Shepherd and got a terrier boy pup last year. I wouldn't say they get on, they just tolerate each other. The pup is just too playful for our older dog, I must admit the pup had to spend a large part of the day in the kitchen/garden during the first few months. Luckily I am home all day and got them to spend time together gradually. The terrier is now a year old but we still have to put him in the kitchen behind a baby gate if we go out.
We made the mistake of not introducing them on neutral ground, I don't know if it would have helped in our situation but i do wish we had done this.
I am just letting you know what happened with us but you may find they get on straight away. I have read that male + female is the better combination. Just make sure the older dog has somewhere to go for peace and quiet if the pup gets too much and good luck

We have an 11 year old cross Collie and last year we got a Weimaraner pup, our old boy reacted similarly to doelani's, he tolerates her as he mostly wants to sleep these days, he does have times when he wants a play and will turn to her with the ball or tug rope, but most of the time he just keeps out of her way, except for when he wants a sniff of her rear end! When she was a pup she was constantly at him, wanting to play, nipping at him, he put up with it for so long then put her in her place with a nip and now she doesn't really bother with him.0

They survived the first night although old dog did bark once or twice as we decided to keep them in different rooms, did not work lol
Off to vets today to get injections, ask about microchip and need to sort insurance. Forgot there was so much to sort with a pup
