I bought a webcam from wilkinsons today. It is the texet one with built in mike. The computer says it is working properly but I cannot get a picture at all it is just a multicoloured screen with a couple of blue stripes across it, the mike test does not seem to work either.
I have tried unistalling and looking to see if anything else is amiss such as something not ticked but I am really fed up now as nothing works. I had a webcam ages ago on another computer and I remember having to enable something to make it work but can not for the life of me remember what it was. I am running windows xp on a desktop if that is any help.
I did look at the other one in wilks but it had a flimsy headset instead of built in mike and decided it would suffer with the kids using it. Not sure it would have been any better anyway.

Did you install the driver - was there a CD with it for that software?
Are you trying to use it with an extension usb cable?0 -
Things to check with current one...
driver installed ok
application installed and running ok
on the physical side..
plugged in (obviously)
focus adjusted
If it's none of those things my guess would be that it's bust.
What you remember is probabaly just having some software to turn a built in one one and off (often activated using a function key).0 -
Thanks for your replies I did use the cd and the computer said it was working ok but all I got was either a black screen or stripey screen when I tried to test it. I uninstalled and tried again several times. Also it was plugged straight into the computer. I have now taken it back and had my money refunded and reserved a microsoft one at @rgos.
I get so fed up with things that are supposed to be so simple to install but end up being a nightmare.
It might have helped if the company had a help file or something online but there was nothing except a shop.0 -
just got the microsoft one, plugged it in and it worked immediately. 10% off so only £15.990
