Agreed it is unfair I wonder what they could do to make it fairer!:)

Not consider 'whiplash' a claimable injury and credit hire dissapear ... loss ratios would suddenly look better!

OP - you are saying that you know people who have been convicted of drink driving yet pay less for insurance than you do. Answer is simple really - ask them where they buy their insurance from and go along and get a quote. Nobody says you have to stay with the same insurer. Maybe you should do what lots of other people do, which is move around every year and take advantage of offers to get new customers in - bit like the supermarket loss leaders.

You may well find that the DD's are lying through their teeth! Alternatively is their vehicle the same as yours, are you the same age, do you live at the same address, do you both have the same cover, excess, drivers etc. etc.

Unless everything is identical that is not an accurate comment.
  • Hi, your car insurance and daylight robbery messages have led me to ask the following.

Do you know how I can get out of my current car insurance policy? I started it back in November and then got rid of my car within a few weeks, I've tried to cancel the policy (as I no longer own a car) however they have asked for £437 to cancel my policy and insurance. All advice is welcome. I'm pregnant and I moved house last week so I don't have a spare £437 to pay for car insurance towards a car that I no longer own.

    Thanks, yours in anticipation.

The FSO has ruled there shouldn't be a punitive charge, it should be about pro-rata, and a fair cancellation charge. Ask for the breakdown, and tell them you intend to complain to the FSO if they can't resolve it.
    There's a thread here.

Anyone know if they can legally include

annual charges for add-ons e.g. breakdown and legal cover
    installment charges ???
    credit arrangement fees
    Commission

I'm asking on behelf of murphyslaw.
My understanding is that add-ons are not cancellable and commission clawback is legal, but not completely sure on the others.

The first step is to get a breakdown and then decide whether there is something to complain about.

Well, the fso will know, so initially phone them
0800 0 234 567, and they can advise if it's a genuine charge or not.
  • Thanks for all your help, I'm going to ring my insurance brokers now.
    Regards:)
