Hi
I have managed to pull 4 x new SL8ED Intel XEON Processors from a server a company was disposing of. (LUCKY!)
I am trying to find a mainboard that will work with them so I can make my own home server.
Any help?
Thanks

They are old chips - 2005 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Xeon_microprocessors
They need a socket 604 motherboard which a quick search seems to only be available as refurbs.
You don't need server-class processors to make a home server. What do you want a server for?0 -
its to host emails, a small website (database) and mainly file sharing and music sharing between the family computers.
I have loads of old bits and pieces lying around so i thought it would be a good chance to knock one up.
Another solution is ebay!Scrimping and saving!0 -
You'd get better performance from any recent quad core processor, and save some money too. The processors you have are rated at 129 watts each so that's 516 watts of power for the processors, you'll need ECC ram which won't be easy to come by and a 4 socket motherboard, not worth the hastle really.0
