12 Gas bill on one day!
We moved into our flat, above a commercial premises, in July 2009. When we called British Gas to sort out Gas/Electricity billing they told us that the gas was supplied through the commercial premises and that we needn't worry about that. They have been charging us for electricity ever since - and we are in credit on our account. At the time we asked the other flat about paying for gas - they told us they had lived here 6 years and never had a gas bill.
Well, on Saturday morning, 12 'British Gas Business' bills fell on our mat (none for the neighbours) and a few addressed to the previous tenants, which we have not opened. The bills all cover periods from 27th July 2009 until 17th December 2010. However, all 12 bills are dated 18th January. They collectively total £1038 (a 2 bedroom flat), payment is due on 28th January.
I haven't been able to get through to British Gas Business.
Can anyone advise if this is legal? allowed? normal? should we be dealing with British Gas Business? will their rates be higher than residential rates? is it true that a company can only bill for the previous 12 months?
Any help appreciated!
