Banking for the elderly

My 90 year old friend has an account with Lloyds TSB which is paying a measly 0.1%. Can anyone recommend something better. It can't be internet only or have a monthly banking requirement. Lloyds have 'kindly' put her onto a Platinum account so she pays £15 a month for all the benefits that she''ll never use.

It may depend how your friend (and perhaps her children) trusts you. I opened a joint account with my 86 year old mother, who lives 80 miles away, and undertake all her transactions for her online eg a recent car tax renewal. She won't go onto the internet as she perceives it as being too complicated. She is compos mentis but disabled and so can't walk far. Lloyds had no problem with the arrangement. They had conned her in my opinion for a £10 monthly fee account for benefits she would never use. I rang up and changed it with no problem to the basic account and no fee. I print off a statement regularly and show her where her money is. She is meant to get a paper one from them but they haven't managed this yet after 6 months and we are not paper free.0
