HM Paymaster expired cheques?

Not sure if this is the right section for this enquiry:

I have a number of governmental cheques which are past their expiry date. The cheques are all marked "HM Paymaster General will pay the amount if this payable order is presented within six months". I tried to deposit one that was just a couple of days over the six months, and it got bounced back and I got hit with a fee from my bank.

Does anyone know if HM Paymaster would reissue the cheques if I wrote to them, or is the money gone for good? It adds up to £500-odd, seems a shame not to get paid for the work I have done just because there is an arbitrary time limit on them.

You should be able to get them re-issued

I have had them re-issued before.

Do you know who to write to? Some of the cheques have HM Paymaster RH10 1UH, the others have HM Paymaster EC2M 4BA. Not sure which address I should be writing to

Just an update, managed to get the cheques successfully re-issued by going back to the original issuing agency (the DVLA in this case)

  • Hi,everyone , I'm a international student in London, I also get a cheque from the HM Paymaster General, it said"HM Paymaster General EC2M 4BA will pay the amount shown if this payable order is presented within six months", I went to EC2M 4BA it's a RBS bank's building, I just want to ask can I change the cheque in any bank? or I have to find the HM Paymaster General office to change it?

You just pay it into your normal bank account.
