audio problem on acer pc

I have a lot of music on my pc which I has played through the speakers without any problems until recently when I plugged in some headphones (so as not to disturb others), however now that I have unplugged the headphones there is no sound from the speakers. Any ideas?

It depends on how the socket is wired, but some have a headphone socket with additional contacts that disconnect the speaker output when headphones are plugged in - and these can lose their springiness and fail to reconnect when the phones are removed.

I'd try gently inserting and removing the phones plug a few times to see if that helps.
