single tax credit claim question.

hi, i've had a letter from the specialist compliance team asking me about my single tax credit claim and is it right?
Well it is, as i live alone, but i've to phone and answer some questions before they start their checks to see if anything is wrong.
My question is, do these letters randomly come out, or has someone helpfully phoned them up to try and get me in trouble. I know people that would do this, unfortunately. :(

  • I had a letter of the same sorts although for IS etc. Apparently from what I was told these are just random letters to make sure everything is the same.

There have been a couple of posts on the board before about this sort of thing, it seems to just be that they are randomly sent out.

  • now i had one of these last year but it turned out it was because someone had claimed i was working whilst on benefit and i had to prove i wasnt. luckily i was attending college full time so could do so.
at the end of the day if you are claiming honeslty you have nothing to worry about. just call them and clear it up. case closed ;)
  • I had one before Christmas, but it was because their computers threw up another adult in the house ...... my DD, 20 who obviously, i stopped claiming for.
Its nothing to worry about :)

I didnt think you could claim benefits while studying fulltime..thought you had to be available for and searching for work?
