Toyota Car Service
Hi everyone,
I got a new car recently and its now hit 40 000 miles. It's 2006 Toyota Aygo and I have been told over the phone by my local Toyota dealer service will cost £280!!!
That's is alot of money to me, especially being a student. So I was wondering it's ok to serviced my car cheaper at a local garage or is that a Big NO NO due to the specialist Toyota liquid and stuff they can only use on Toyota cars??!
Thanks in advance.

Should be fine to use a local as long as the do it inline with Toyota's recomendations if you have a warranty.0

Why do people buy cars and then act surprised when they have to service them? When I buy a car I find out the service intervals and costs and build them into my budget.
As for the OP. The car will be out of warranty so it would be Ok to get it serviced by a recommended local independent providing the correct parts and fluids are used. This does NOT mean Kwikfit, Nationwide or any of the other national chains.0 -
Our Aygo just had its four year service at a local garage a couple of weeks ago, it was less than half the cost of what you have been quoted.
Whilst we had excellent dealer service when it was in warranty, Toyota are no different to any other main dealership, they know how to add zeros to invoices.
As an example at one service Toyota informed us a new pollen filter was recommended. For this massive undertaking (10 seconds work) Toyota were asking £60! I paid £7 + VAT for the part.0 -

This also happens, shock horror, when people find that they need tyres! If you've driven 10k+ then yes you will need new tyres.
I'm guilty of not checking out the servicing costs. My previous Zafira cost £112 for the first service, £230ish for the second etc etc. I bought a Mazda 5 Diesel to replace it without checking the servicing costs. [rolleyes]. I just thought that inflation + Japanese car servicing = add £30-£50 on top of the Zafira costs. [double rolleyes]. Imagine my shock when I was told that the cost of the first service for the Mazda was £470!:DThe man without a signature.0 -
There is no problem using another garage BUT the car needs a Major service, that is why it is more expensive, make sure you point this out to any other garages when you ask for prices, don't just say service. Not all items are checked / changed on a normal service.Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0

That has changed with the new Mazda diesels.;)
My Mazda6 from Sept 09 has the new 2.2l engine. The first service was a few pennies over £200.0 -
Im a car driver for 2 years and have been named driver with my mum's car and a couple months ago purchased Toyota Aygo and this is my first service ever done. Honestly speaking I thought it would be maximum around £150, oh well local garage it will be.. I will check honestjohn webiste for good recommended dealers locally or if anyone lives near Heathrow and knows a good garage let me know please0

I'd ring around MrT dealers - the prices do vary. I'm sure my local MrT dealer would be cheaper than £280 for an aygo.0

Could it be that Toyota are including the cambelt change in that?
For all that people have a go at Jap car costs, cambelts etc are usually cheaper to replace on the like of a Toyota because they don't have all those horrible plastic tensioner pulleys that need replacing (Renault-era Nissan being a notable exception! Hideous engines).
A cambelt change on a Golf at a main dealer can cost up to £450 on its own, so if I'm right this is cheap enough.
Go to a *good* independent, and you'll get change from £200 most likely.0
