Hi everyone,

A family that live across the road from me are a complete and utter pain in the rear end. They constantly have their music on really loud (he has an amp/speakers that are suitable for a small nightclub), are constantly shouting in the street and have noisy people visiting at all hours of the day.

I have already reported them to the RSL's Neighbourhood Warden team several times and that has had pretty much no effect. Now I have started reporting them to the councils noise people. The trouble is that none of my other neighbours seem to report them, I think because they are intimidated by them. This means often by the time the noise people get around to the call then the noise has stopped. I know I need to try and get some more neighbours on board as the noise people will view the case as a higher priority the more calls that they receive.

To top it all off the woman is the secretary of the blooming residents association. Talk about putting yourself in a postition of power to hide your own bad behaviour! I am not a member of this.

Does anyone have any suggestions what I can do to get them to stop being such a complete and utter pain in the !!!!!?

I'm not going to confront them as I'm pretty sure I will get a load of attitude back and if I did I'm not sure I would be able to bite my tongue and be the bigger person.

I'm considering writing to a local Councillor. Does anyone else have any other ideas?

I think you need to keep a dairy of when and what the disruptions are, even better film them if they are on the public highway, and then refer to this when complaining.

Thanks. What do you mean about filming them when they are on the public highway, does that imply I should not film them if they are on their own property?

P.S. I am also interested in the residents association angle, should RAs have rules? What is their legal status? Any thoughts on this?

Keep a diary of 'incidents' over the next few weeks/months, then turn up at the RA meeting, and raise the issue of noise pollution......

All good advice, but they don't need to be on the public highway to record them.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

Well I think that's a grey area (I think you can record them on their own property though). However, filming your own room where you can clearly hear noise from next door would be fine.

I think at this point you need a dairy of 'incidents' as this is something you can later return to.

It shouldn't matter in the slightest whether they are memebrs of a residents' association or not, they are subject to the same laws and social rules anyone else.

Yes. you wouldnt want to breach their Human rights would you.
  • I can't fathom why you haven't joined this Residents Association before now. Then you could bring up the issue of antisocial noise and whatnot without mentioning anyone or at least find out what their policies are. Sometimes these sorts of issues are easier to address from the inside.

In the meantime keep a detailed diary and record the racket is often as possible.
