i used to leave my cats out all day while i was at work. They soon recognised the sound of my car and would come running when i can home. Cats are very adept at finding places to hide and sleep during the day.
Cats don't have owners - they have staff!! :D:p

I don't quite understand what you mean by this? What and where would get damp?

My cat flap is through the wall, so there is a tunnel between the two flaps, external and internal. If I leave the external flap off or taped up, the rain might get inside the wall. I don't know if this causes damp or not.

I think he will be fine outside for a few hours, he was a stray when he was picked up by the cat rescue so he must be used to it.

hi geri , your cat flap is exactly the same as the one in my old house.

We also put a cat flap on the shed, with a bed and some food. Bu99er would use that.

For three years we tried to get that pesky cat to use it, he would only use it if it had been taped up. Not very good in winter, as our house was open plan. I just dont think he like the 'tunnel'.

We eventually gave up on the idea. :rotfl:

edit: my house was also mid-terrace.

Can you fix the flaps up for a while until Jimmy gets used to comming and going through that route?

I used sticky tape to hold the cat flap open in the door until my cats got the hang of it. When they were used to comming in and out that way I showed them how to push the flap and go through (tuna helped!).

A peg holds our cat door open. One of our three just doesn't get the concept of "push to open".
