If you go in and say that you would like to close this account because you want a fee free account I AM SURE that they will find another free one to transfer you to. They hate losing custom.

Free travel insurance and free phone insurance are the only ones really worth anything. Money off insurance is rubbish because the insurance is usually more expensive than competitiors in the first place, ditto with money off other stuff such as CDs and electricals, these can even be counter-productive if you blindly use these and don't compare for money saving alternatives elsewhere. The offers on travelers cheques and foreign currency are allegedly going to save £43, I'd like to see it save me £43 over my Nationwide credit and debit cards which I use abroad.
If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.

If you do like it please hit the thanks button.

My husband has an Advantage Gold, which is a waste of money, but we keep it just in case we need the credit facilities it offers in a hurry.

I have a normal current account and pay no fees or charges .

But................I did read that because the banks are having to refund so many extortionate bank charges to people challenging them, that they will shortly be making ALL current accounts "fee-payable".

As they are aware that the DWP influenced Post Office accounts are being phased out, and that all benefits etc., need to be paid into a bank, then yet again, the banks have a captive audience.
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

I joined NatWest when I was at college and have stuck with them for the past 18 years ... or rather, I kept the account and shipped out to get a better rate and convenience with Cahoot (and more recently A&L and Citibank to take up Quidco cashback offers!) .

I am a loyal customer - I have kept the account but only use when absolutely necessary . I think that it can come in useful when asked the question, "how long have you been with your current bank?" though not sure what affect it has at all (but by keeping my NatWest, it doesn't have a negative effect as it does not appear on my credit reports).

Downgrade from the Advantage Gold to Current Plus (so that it doesn't cost anything each month) then use one of the other, better paying accounts. There are some great offers out there, and potentially cashback and/or other sign up gifts to be had as well. Coventry offer 5.4% on their Coventry First account on all money in the account, therefore an excellent rate (same as savings) but with the ease of a current account.
