Very cross with play.com

On 4th Jan I ordered a Sony Bravia TV from play.com for £400 reduced from about £600
Since then the order has shown on the website as 'awaiting stock'. I emailed them today to find out what was happening as I've been waiting quite a while, only to be told that they had limited stock and it is no longer available.
I can't believe it has taken this long to tell me and that they only told me because I asked - of course most sales are now over so it's going to be hard to find another bargain. when I ordered it the Ts & Cs said that there's no contract until payment is taken (which it wasn't) so technically i guess they've done nothing wrong but I still think it's shoddy service to a)advertise something that they haven't got and b) not tell you immediately that it's unavailable.

I had the same with a costume I ordered for my son (mario daft) and the order status for ages stated: awaiting stock and it was too close to sons birthday and I called, got a lady and she said it would be another week or so, I told her just to cancel it....the fact it said awaiting stock was more infuriating but to be fair - they have had a lot of good sales that I have got good advantage of.. just one of they things I guess...0

It's a blessing in disguise OP. Play.com's customer service is dreadful and if the tv had a fault and had to go back I reckon you would be waiting weeks while they repaired it and trying to claim the postage back.
There are good tv deals coming up all the time at the moment. Even John Lewis ahve some good deals and you get a 5 year warranty from them.0 -
Thanks Trumpton - does sound like I've had a lucky escape. I'll have a look at John Lewis too see if I can score a bargain!0

I'm annoyed with play.com as well. I had accrued points through using the play.com credit card, redeemed them for a voucher and added 3 items to my shopping basket. There was nowhere obvious to redeem the voucher and I clicked proceed thinking it would be on the next page.
However it processed the order obviously using the credit card details from when i last used play.com over a year ago.
i phoned them up immediately to say, firstly, I wanted to cancel the order as I had a voucher to redeem and secondly which card had been used as I've no idea what card I last used (stoozing - very MSE lol).
They wouldn't cancel the order and I'm now having to return the items so I can purchase them again (hopefully!!) using the voucher.
They also couldn't tell me which credit card I had used - data protection issues apparently!!
As some of my credit cards had online statements only I'm not going to know which card I've defaulted on until they start chasing me.0 -

Sainsbury had a 32" and 40" Sony Bravia on special offer recently....
Might be worth a look.0 -
Slightly less cross now - they have offered me an upgrade to a 46 inch that's normally about £800 for the original price of £400 -(original was 40 inch) Always worth making a bit of a fuss I say!0

Sorry but that is absolute tosh
1/ You can see which card/s you have registered with them.
2/ When placing the order it tells you which card it is coming off, by showing you some of the digits.
3/ Why can't you access your credit card online accounts and see which card the money has come from?
4/ How do you know when you owe money on your credit cards? do you not get a reminders? can you not look at the statements?
5/ How do you know that you will default on a card, if you don't know which one you have used.
You seem to have completely overlooked all the above and more. At least if you are going to spin out a story, at least make it plausable.0
