redundancy

hi my husband works for a construction company.his job involves travel around the country when required. His boss has told him there may not be any work after current job comes to an end.the thing is they have got loads of work else where and he was told that he can not be transfered to the other sites as they cannot afford travel money or lodge money.they have stopped the bonuses since xmas.they would be taking on agency staff for the other jobs instead of paying for qualified workers who have been with them for over 6yrs.can they leagally do this ??

Seems sensible to employ locals rather than shipping people around the country.

Looks like the need to employ people that can travel is no longer required, which is potential redundancy if there is no local/commutable work.
