Paying funeral expenses back.

My husband died in November, at which time we had £352. in our joint bank account. He had wanted a basic funeral and this came to £2035.00. I had to pay the disbursements before the funeral (£835) which I managed to do. The undertaker also helped me apply for a grant from the DWP and said that I would probably receive more than the £1200 outstanding. I eventually received £1086. I sent them a copy of our bank statement at the time of his death. We had no savings and live in rented property and received benefits.
Since then I have received my state pension, which I apparently had not had (I had Pension Credit), this amounted to 5 years deferred, which although is a lot of money, does have to last me the rest of my life. I could not manage on what I get on a weekly basis.
I have now received a letter from the DWP asking me to repay the funeral grant, and while I know I can afford it now, I know very well that my husband would be saying that everyone else can get it, why not you.
I am having trouble knowing exactly where I stand on this and would appreciate any help.
With thanks.
