Paypal Buyer Protection

After 80 successful buying and selling transactions, I've been ripped off to the tune of £73, thought I was buying original software ended up with a CDR!

As the product was covered by Paypal Buyer Protection, thought no problem just fill in a form and I'd get my money back!

Well it turns out, Paypals Buyer Protection program looks like it will never pay out and you have no appeal or comeback what so ever!

My question is, what will happen if I dispute the transaction with my credit card company?

You might get your money back. You are below the £100 where they are legally responsible, so it depends on the T&Cs of your card.

Was there no hint in the feed back or the auction description that the seller was supplying pirate software?

What about if you recieve Faulty goods and the seller refuses to refund (paid via Paypal)?

No no hint at all, until after the auction ended, I was emailed by another buyer that was worried.

The seller managed to changed the auction description, after it had closed to say it was Backup software!

Ebay have deregistered the user and item, who was very coy about his address, if I find it I may pay him a visit!

Are you sure, my understanding was that you could only change a listing if:
    - your item does not have a bid; and
    - it does not end in the next 12 hours.

The only way around this would be to put some of the details into an image hosted on your own server, and change the image after the auction ended.

The OP is saying that it was the auction description that was changed not the image.

You are totally right Altarf, There is no way the description could of been changed after the auction finished.

    Whats the item number?

PayPal seem to have a problem. Surely is it not 'PayPal Protection' rather than 'PayPal Buyer (or Seller) Protection'. More get out clauses than an especially slippery eel, at a slippery eel competition, winning the title of Grandest Slipperiest Eel............ ;)

  • Quite right Barginbabe, unfortunately most of the auction description was made up of links to graphics to his own site!

All he did was change the header graphic to say Backup Software not Original!

As paypal protection, I'd like to hear under what circumstances they actually pay out, must be very very rare!

I'm not going to let this one go, even if they suspend my paypal account!
