Claim on Home Insurance

Options
Hi

Not sure if I can claim on this - I have Build/Cont's insurance on my flat which is Let out.

The Letting agent called me yesterday saying that there has been a pipe leak and the plumbers have been in...Total bill is £280.

Can I claim this against my insurance?

Thanks

I think it depends on the cause of the leak. If it's wear and tear, probably not for the plumber's bill. But you may be able to claim for any damage the water did to carpets etc. It's worth asking the insurance company.

Normally you can claim the resultant damage but not the cause of the damage - eg fix the paint work but not the pipe unless the cause of the leak is an insured risk.

Of cause if it is only a very small leak then the result damage may well be repaired in the process of repairing the pipe/ tap etc in which case there is nothing to claim.

Final consideration... after deducting the excess and considering the increase in premiums is it financially worth while claiming?
