Managing Debt From Abroad

in Credit cards
I could really use some advice here on how to proceed.
Due to bad money management, separation etc. I have around 16k debt spread across 3 credit cards with a pretty bad credit rating (Couldn't consolidate into a manageable loan). However, for the last 7 months I have been living and working in Australia paying the credit card companies each month without missing a single payment so I am hoping this has improved my rating.
The time has come for me to sort this out and move the debt off the credit cards as the interest I am paying is just astronomical and I am getting no where in paying it off.
However I am not sure how best to proceed as I am effectively on the other side of the world and won't be returning for some time, I presume in order to get any form of a consolidation loan I would need to be working in the UK? If anyone could offer any advice I would be very grateful as I am pretty lost at the moment and know I can't keep this debt on credit cards.
Thanks

Are the cards registered all at the same UK address? Does a friend / family member live there? Are you registered to vote at that address?Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Yes, I sold my house and moved back to my parents before I left, thus changing all credit cards over to their address, I don't think I am on the electoral roll there though unless they put me on it while I was away? I would have to check that.0

Any application for UK credit would have to me made at a UK address, and you would find it very hard to be given anything without being on the electoral role.
Although this could be considered fraud, given you don't actually live there. Does your salary come in to an austrailian or british bank account?Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Could you not take out a loan in Australia? After all, that is where you live and work.0

I am only on a years working holiday visa in Australia, then I am moving on so I won't be returning to England for a while. I believe I am on the electoral roll for my old house and I will be added to my parent's house once the renew form comes around (If I can be added).
So to answer your questions, I am not eligible to take out any form of loan in Australia and my salary does get paid into an Australian bank account.0 -
Hi Izools
on the subject of credit card debt in UK & living abroad, a question please? if now a resident of other country, where salary is paid, and all ties with uk cut inc not on electoral roll, what would happen if I stopped paying a c/c debt on a card still registered at my parents address.(mum paying at present)? thanks0 -

I know for a fact that Australia and England have a reciprical agreement so you wouldn't get away with it. In fact I am not looking at getting away with it, I just want to make the debt more manageable as the interest is just too much to cope with. There must be something I can do to make this a little easier?0
