Someone on ebay has set up two id's and made slanderous and defemative remarks about me which are all lies on its review pages, so if anyone goes to this section they will see my name saying im a conman and scammer, i have told ebay about this and they did not remove these lies, i want to sue ebay myself as i have all the eveidence as ebay did nothing to the seller but left his lies on ebay, this seller has broke lots of ebay rules such as publishing private information such as names, phone numbers, email addresses etc which are all against ebay rules,I recently put a video on youtube about my hobby and within a short time i got this message "I hear your very popular on ebay - as a crook and a con man! " And its all over the internet that this liar has used ebay as a weapon to spread his lies and ebay do NOTHING. so now ive put up with these lies but find now that these lies have ruined my reputation and wherever i go i am picked on about the lies on ebay, i want to sue ebay myself and dont think i will need a solicitor, i just need someone to tell me that it can be done as im going to sue ebay for £500,000 for damage to my health and most of all to my reputation, i got this slander from someone who conned me for £420 and exposed him, he was arrested and because of this set up these bogus ebay id's and just pasted a lot of lies and accusationes, none of which are true but all lies and slander. How do i sue ebay and get this to court as the case will speak for itself when i just show the judge all of the slander that ebay have allowed about me on thier site now for over two years. Ebay im going to sue you for all the problems you have caused me thats my promise

You should bring your case against the person in question and get them to take down the offensive material. Unless it's in feedback, you'd be better to get a case brought against the person themselves, because eBay will just get their lawyers to point out the clauses in the user agreement which absolve them of responsibility for what a third party is doing to you.

If it is in feedback, you can see if you can get a stat-dec to get eBay to remove the offending comments. They tend to roll over on that one.

I don't know the history of this one so perhaps you better explain why you've called them a troll.

To be honest it does rather have all the marks of a post intending to be 'amusing' rather than serious.

I'm assuming troll thread given they're asking for £500k compensation!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Never underestimate the extent to which a thread may be genuine...£500K does sound unrealistic but the advice I gave would be sufficient to dissuade them from pursuing eBay if they are genuine.

The issues about frivolous tort cases are why the government wants to rein in spending on legal aid. While I disagree with this policy, you have to wonder sometimes. Although I think the government are making too much of sensationalist headlines (what would be new?), I think this suggests to me that someone is just very upset about something and is going after the wrong people for the wrong reasons for the wrong amount.

Seeing as they haven't come back to debate the issue, you could all be right, but we get a lot of people threatening to sue eBay, and the advice is always the same - go after the person who ripped you off first.

  • Actually its Libel.. Not slander
The DWP = Legally kicking the Disabled when they are down.
  • It depends what country you are in, in Scotland defaming someone wether it is written or spoken is slander for both.

No the term slander is not used in Scotland. It is libel and slander in England, and defamation in Scotland.

I stand corrected, I knew it was something like that.
