speedo and fuel gauge dont work

My cars fuel gauge and speedo dont always work, i got them tested at an garage and was told there was fault with tranducer in gearbox as it isnt making an electrical connection(its an auto ford) and ford want £120 for it.Its not the £15 speed sensor btw.also got a secondhand fuel sensor float,(but didnt fit it after one day it worked when i filled it right up)was told it sticks as fuel gauge shows half full always.

anyway one day the speedo started working for days then stopped,then started again, now it dont work, it started working when i filled the petrol tank all the way. now im confused.

Whilst this may not be an MOT failure it is a motor traffic offence to drive without a functioning speedometer.

So back to the garage with it!

the fuel gauge started working again to when i got it passed the halfway point but why speedo work again to, yes i do have the computer function on dash and sometimes i have to press it to see my current speed.
