Weird - suddenly booted out of MSE

I was just reading a thread and pressed the Thanks button (had done it on several previous posts), to get an error message along the lines of:

Bad Request
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Size of a request header field exceeds server limit.

Then a very long string which kept repeating (among other things) 'thanks' followed by an 8-digit number.

I was on Firefox and then tried IE (7 I think) and got the same thing. Tried on my phone and it was fine. Have shut down and rebooted netbook and now okay on IE, not tried Firefox yet.

Any idea what that was all about?

I only installed Firefox last week. I haven't manually updated anything since getting the netbook last July, but every few days it downloads updates (of ???) automatically.

Don't know how to get updated versions of things - just assumed they arrive by themselves :o.

This happens to me once in a while, and only on this site  . I find if I clear cookies/history it's OK again for a few weeks - most odd...........

I was hoping someone else would say they'd had the same thing happen. I looked on Site Feedback at first but nothing on there so assumed it was just me.

Seems to be very slow tonight too. Ah well, just one of those things I suppose.
