Last Minute Holidays - worth the stress/hassle?

I'm thinking of donning a cavalier attitude and saying "what the hell!" next time round for a holiday - that's right, I'm thinking of going last minute...
I'd like to hear back from forumites that have either tried it or do it on a regular basis.
Some thoughts off the top of my head:
Have to say, the thought makes me a little nervous but some times you have to jut DO IT!

Some thoughts off the top of my head:
- Do you have to 'not care' about your destination?
- I usually go abroad in the 'off peak' sept to june period - will I find some heat?
- Is there any point having a 'destination', like say Maldives, or am I dreaming?
- Can you get some smashing deals at the airport - i.e. bags packed and waiting?!
- Will I save much money this way?
Have to say, the thought makes me a little nervous but some times you have to jut DO IT!

I had looked at last minute deals before, but with the added late charges I didn't think it was worthwhile.. Plus being such a control freak I would have to research the place and hotel first, which defeats the purpose lol

Good luck if you do decide to "DO IT"

We've booked last minute deals in the past but always make sure they are named accomodation so we can look at the hotel and area in a brochure first. We've never had a problem and have saved quite a lot of money booking last minute. If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.0

How last minute have you done - couple of weeks before/week before/day before/same day?0 -
Perhaps a simple way of satisfying your curiosity is to look for a holiday leaving this week and then assessing if you think it is a bargain.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

We've been toying with the same idea, we booked 3 months in advance once and thats the closest we came to 'last minute'!
Maybe a visit to a travel agent will help? They may be able to give you a better clue as to how many holidays are selling and to where for the coming year. I do know that you dont usually get much of a last minute deal with the Maldives, theyre usually booked up for the following year!
I shall watch this thread with interest as well.....KimmyCustard :j0
