Nintendo Wii channels - web connection

Im just wondering if anyone can help me out with my Nintendo Wii - its not very old (although is second hand), I have set it so it can connect to my wireless network which it does fine - to the point that I can install updates for the console but the channels on the Wii do not seem to work - such as the shopping channel, news channel etc
Is there something specific I need to do to enable these to work?

If the console was second hand, you might want to 'reformat' it to clear out any old settings.

Was it bought privately or from a shop ?

it was bought privately - when I got it though everything had been wiped and I had to set it up as like it was first time use. As I said the internet connection itself is fine as Ive installed updates but just cannot get these damn channels to work.

Try using agreement/contract to use internet/channels again
Check to make sure that wiiconnect24 is enabled then try again
Might be worth a try to assign the wii its own ip address in your router.
Are you getting any error messages, or fading back to wii menu screen ?
