Lha

Hi, me and my wife will be moving to private rented accomodation in the near future and are wondering if we would be able to claim Local Housing Allowance. I only earn £11,300 pa and my wife who only works part time £4365 pa. I have read we may be eligible but are not sure if there is a limit you must earn?

Thank You

Based on the sums you mention above I don't think you would qualify, or at least you would only get a small percentage.

You can identify the MAXIMUM LHA payable for a 1 bedroom property in your local area. Then you can use this information when you double check if you are eligible for any if you input your details into the Turn2us online benefit calculator.

What benefits (if any) do you receive? Do you have savings over 6k and /or over 16k?

It would far more helpful to gather some facts before suggesting that someone would not qualify for help.

Have you checked your LHA applicable amount?
  • Thank you for all your replies. The maximum LHA payment for a 1 bedroom property in our area is £75. We receive working tax credits of £12 per week but we dont have any savings at all. I will check the turn2us calculator as well.

You may find that your WTC cancels out entitlement to LHA.

Your joint net income is approx 282.90/week - with an LHA rate of £75/week you earn too much to qualify, unfortunately, assuming that neither of you is disabled or of pension age.
  • Thank you all for help and replies you have been a great help.
