Costs of converting conventional boiler to combi
Comments

Hi,
We had our old floor standing conventional boiler replaced in November.
We had a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30SI combi installed in a different part of the house. 7 new stelrad radiators installed, wireless thermostat and timer, magnaclean. 5 year warranty on boiler as installer was Worcester bosch approved.
Old boiler and tanks were removed. Work took a couple of days and cost £2400.
Wasn't a bad price IMO.
We got a couple of quotes a few month earlier just to replace the cold conventional boiler with a new conventional boiler and these came in at around £2500 without any radiators.
Hope this helps,
Rob
who did you get to do this? this is an amazing quote...i am guessing it is a local person? Just had npower in to replace a new combi with my old one..a simple replacement no new rads or antying like that...they want £3000 - £3100 . I am quite shocked to be honest..0 -

Hi,
We got a local installer from Leeds to do the work. I won't advertise him on the forum but if you are local and want his details PM me. He wasn't the quickest of workers but got the job done for the price quoted even though a couple of extra bits of work were needed.
NPower , BG etc will overcharge and try to lure you in by saying they will give you free boiler cover for a couple of years - If it's a new boiler, you don't need boiler cover as it's already covered under warranty. The guy we used mentioned that he usually charges around £1100 for a straight boiler swap - and that's for a worcester boiler with 5 year warranty.
I used a website called mybuilder to find our installer - you can check feedback from previous jobs which is quite re-assuring.
OP - we had the same dilemma as you. We couldn't decide whether to replace the 30 year old boiler or not. We are currently renovating the house and in the end we decided we didn't want to be ripping the old boiler out in a few years time after doing all the other work in hte house. The old boiler was costing a fortune to run too so hopefully we will save some money on gas bills.

^ Yes, that's the dilemma I may be facing too. Once the house if fully renovated then it's going to be a royal pain to rip out the old central heating system and put a new one in. I'm now erring on the side of just biting the bullet and changing to a combi at 'first fix' stage of the renovation.Everyone is entitled to my opinion!0
