Netbook with Windows CE - Flash player query???

Hi all,

I'm a bit of a technophobe so apologies if a daft question!

I bought my daughter a 7" netbook for Christmas which is still sat unused as almost all she ever does is go on Facebook and play games/Farmville etc, but to play those the Netbook has to have Flash player installed. Which this one hasn't!

I've had a look on Google and whatnot, but not being that savvy I didn't wanna risk downloading a virus or something!!!

Any advice most welcomed, otherwise this will be the biggest waste of £70 ever! :rotfl:

Probably because there are many ways to waste £70.

Second hand XP laptops are around the same price.

You haven't said what you have got, or the version of CE.

You might find a version of flash lite that works on the adobe website

    Hi
Is your netbook capable of running a different operating system?

Not sure it will be Windows CE, thats a bit long in the tooth to be on a notebook. I*f it is you are almost certainly stuck

What make and model is it?

Could you put another operating system on, maybe but not without reasonalbe technical knowledge.

i dont think there is anything you can do - we made the same mistake - bought a netbook thinking our DD would be able to visit all the usual things like facebook, Youtube, etc., only to find that it wouldnt run any of these sites

the spec for the netbook didnt detail this, nor did the manual that came with it. it wasnt til i tried searching for a fix, that i came across the manufacturers website, where it informed me that the particular netbook i had, wouldnt be able to do any of the things i thought it would

Unfortunately in my case, we had bought the netbook months previously in the sale, so when i tried to return it, saying it wasnt suitable and that they had mislead me, the retailer was having none of it, as it wasnt faulty, and the security seal on the box was obviously no longer intact

noted that the current upgraded model, also doesnt have flash capabilities, but their blurb still doesnt point this out, so you have no-way of knowing, until you have got it out the box, and try to access the sites

what model of netbook do you have?

There are hundreds of these ripoff 7" Windows CE netbooks out there (different brands all the same specification, same inside, same China factory probably), I had one (£40 direct from Hong Kong) short version of it is that you have wasted your money. Windows CE is the core that is then tailored to run on the specific non-standard system, like in a particular mobile phone. Its therefore near impossible to get any software that will run on it other than what the factory put on it. I know, I have quite a lot of experience with Windows CE and Windows Mobile. I failed largely, what I could get to do anything ran impossibly badly because these devices have tiny processing power.

These things are nothing more than novelty toys. Put it down to bad experience and look out on ebay for a real netbook running real windows going cheap. Something 10" with an Intel Atom CPU will do what you want with ease.
