There are lots of alternative cards that allow downloaded ROM images to be played from a micro SD card in them and they are all illegal to sell or import. They are not illegal to own though so there is no retrospective legislation or more to the point they didn't want to have to pay any compensation to owners of products bought legally.

I think the same applies to console modchips.

They banned both R4 cards and any device that can be used as a game copier, which means all variants.

Then speeding, or pulling wheelies on the public highway is illegal but it still happens.

My point was whilst there are many places that do sell them you won't get any "genuine" distributers or get much legal comeback if there are issues.
You may also want to think about buying one locally where you don't leave an order tracing back to your door.
