DIY / online divorce sites or local solicitors?

Hello,

I've been separated for nearly two years and am looking into getting a divorce. I'm still on civil terms with my partner, we have no kids, have already divided our property etc between us without use of getting solicitors involved (other than the conveyancers). I think that our situation to divorce should be straight forwards.

There are lots of online sites offering DIY or cheap divorces - I obviously what it all to be legal and correct, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience of doing it themselves or using these cheap online sites. Would you recommend them or, based on your experiences, should I bite the bullet and go to a local solicitor at several times the price?

Many thanks

If it's all friendly, just go to the court offices and collect the forms, or download them from the court services website. That way it will only cost you the statutory court fees which everyone has to pay. It's not difficult to do and court office staff will guide you on procedures if you are unsure.

One needs to divorce the other and serve papers on them, so you need to agree who is playing what role.

Also look at getting a Financial Consent (or Clean Break) Order. The divorce ends your relationship only, but you are still linked financially and can claim on the other person in the future. The Financial Consent Order breaks your financial relationship, so you can never claim on each other again.

    Hi

I did my own divorce, same as you no children and I moved into his house so only took out what I took into it.

You can get the forms from the local county court office. I didnt have to see a judge or anything, filed the paperwork had to swear an affidavit before the decree nisi and it was all wrapped up in about 4 months. It was a long time ago (1999) but I think it cost me about £120 ish....

Heres the address for all the forms and leaflets that may help
