No Claims bonus !!

I know I should know the answer to this but............
Have three vehicle policies, all with maximum no claims bonuses, none of which have the maximum no claims protected. These are 2 separate car policies and a policy that covers both my motorbikes.
If I make a claim on one of these policies, are the no claims bonuses on the other totally unconnected policies affected in any way ?

Your NCB is unaffected, although the fact you have made a claim must be declared when you renew the other policies & may cause them to load your premiums.

As Andy says, only the NCD on the policy on which you make the claim will be affected but you must make all the insurers aware of the incident. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Thanks for the replies - I wasn't at all sure.
Whilst I am doing a few online quotes for the car policies which expire shortly, will test the theory of loading by adding a ficticious claim :-)PLEASE DO NOT STEAL

When I was searching on the net, I found that some of the companies stored what I had put, including one where a problem with my computer cache meant I was trying to insure my car to a totally different postcode from where I actually live. So mind that fictitious claim doesn't come back to haunt you.0 -
;LOL
I will make sure that I use an unconnected company - thanks for the tip.PLEASE DO NOT STEAL

I thought you could only have 1 no claims bonus used on 1 car at a time ?

We thought the same until this year. Last year was the first year we had 2 cars in the household. Hubby used his protected NCB on the most decent car and the other one had 0 NCB on it. This year we thought that it would stay the same, that one car would have 0 NCB still as you can only earn one lot of NCB. Not true though. It seems that you can earn NCB on each policy you have. Only one lot of NCB can be protected though.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Just thinking about it.....if I were you OP I'd seriously consider paying to protect the NCB on one of the policies. Purely because if by some unforseen stroke of bad luck you have to make claims on both car policies at least you would still end up with max NCB to use on one car.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. NCD protection is effectively an insurance policy on your NCD and therefore depends very much on how risk adverse you are as to if it is worth while or not.
Unfortunately the cost for these things are not as clear cut as they used to be as many insurers no longer have fixed discounts on X years NCD etc but back in the old days it didnt take many years of being claim free for you to be in a better financial situation having lost the NCD and re-earned it having never had NCD protection than to have always paid the extra. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I checked on the AA website - no chance I will ever use them ;-)
When I declared an own fault claim for a roundabout collision (on another vehicle), their quote went up by about 15% despite the car I was proposing to insure having a full no claims bonus.
Some time ago protected no claims bonus was dismissed as a waste of money for the same reason. Insurance companies being the honourable companies they are merely load premiums on protected no claims policies to reflect an increase for the claim rather than reducing your theoretical no claims bonus - in other words, it's a complete con !!PLEASE DO NOT STEAL
