Purchasing domain name and email services

I want to buy a domain name but it seems as if email services (from the same domain) are charged on top.
Its been a while since I last purchased a domain name and at the time I also bought hosting from a separate company. The email service was provided via the hosting company and was part of the service which at the time was very economical as well as reliable. Therefore just wondering what I should do as its for a blog which im doing through Wordpress so I don't need any hosting. I want to be able to use the domain name email address to give it a more professional feel, so was wondering what the best options are.
Thanks

Try either Heart Internet or NamesCo, neither of which have additional charges for email, as far as I know. Satisfy yourself about their reliability first!0

Just buy a domain name and use a free email account like GMX. In your domain controls, you can set up email forwarding so anything that gets sent to whatever@yourdomain.co.uk is forwarded to yourusername@gmx.co.uk. Then in your email client, set the sender's address to whatever@yourdomain.co.uk.
The end result is that people email you at whatever@yourdomain.co.uk, and your replies appear to be sent from that address, but in reality you're using the GMX account.
Hope that makes sense!0 -
You can also buy a name and then use Google Apps or Windows Live Custom domains to host your e-mail
.
Google Apps has a 50 user limit on the free version, but I don't believe Windows Live has any such restriction0 -
+1 for Google Apps
I use it for my emailsLaters

Another +1 for Google Apps.0

I can't give any advice about who to buy a domain name from, because I'm looking for similar advice, but I can advise you strongly to not buy one from the US company FreeParking. I bought my domain name from them about six years ago and their service has been deteriorating ever since. They offer free email hosting, which I daresay is something to do with it, on the 'you don't get something for nothing' principle. There's now lots on the internet about problems with FreeParking. I was abroad a lot this last autumn, without a computer, so needed to check my emails frequently through the FreeParking webmail, and this proved to be unusable for a lot of the time. So I need to transfer my domain name to a UK company with a phone helpline and an excellent reputation for customer service, and would be grateful for recommendations. Unlike Hoseman, I do need email hosting and, after my FreeParking experience, am perfectly prepared to pay a modest annual amount for this.0

I have been with FreeParking for a number of years but recently over the last few months have been experiancing more and more outages with my email. Currently they messed up on renewing my domain and it and its associated email has been down for over 48hrs now.
I am trying out PixelInternet a co.uk company that like freeparking offeres included email boxes - and with 400Mb capacity. So far in the last 6mths they have been okay for my backup email (I registered yet another domain name). Pixel Internet also charge the same for a renewal as they do for a new domain - unlike Freeparking who charge renewals to existing customers at a higher rate.
The GMX option given in another post also sound a good idea - but then Pixel are competivly priced it seems and with a free email box add on.0 -
I've used the same two registration agents - 123Reg and LowCostNames - for years and have had no problems with either. Both forward mail as part of the £3-odd per year per domain.
I'd urge anyone to avoid GoDaddy (despite their often being highly recommended) because of the behaviour of their owner.
