DIY website query

Wonder if anyone out there can advise.....

I'd like to set up a website selling some specific items. I have no programming knowledge but am fairly PC-savvy. I have bought the domain names I want to use from 123reg and was intending on using 123reg to build my website - until I read all the bad reviews about them, which was disappointing as they seem to offer everything that I need (easy to use, e-commerce function, low-cost).

Can anyone suggest a similar company (but without the bad reviews!) that offers these services - at the end of the day, I need a simple but elegant website that won't take an age to create (and won't cost a packet too) - too much to ask?

Chris

Getting british business online,it is a collabaration between, google and bt.
    Created my website on it.
Best bit it is free for two years.
Just put analytics on mine so you can see how many hits you get.
Top tip sign up for a google e-mail address first.
    Then start to create.
Let me know what you think of it
  • Thanks for the reply - I've had a look at gbbo, but I can't find a way to 'get in' as I have my domain name already - there doesn't seem an option if this is the case.

I use Evohosting. It's a pinch more expensive than some hosts but the support is fantastic and there's a host of tools and add-ons freely available. It's easy to transfer your domain name in too.

If you're after an ecoomerce function, there's non cheaper than Paypal buttons.
Very easy to add to a website (if you only have a few products).

It's free until you sell something, where they take a percentage of the sale.
..And another percentage when you move it from your Paypal account to your bank account.

It can also accept direct credit card payments.

If you use Paypal, you can host anywhere as the Paypal system takes care of any security issues.
Which goes down well with prospective customers.

Definitely the simplest way to get a small shop up and running.
  • www.orchardhosting.co.uk great technical support and loads of inbuild software for nearly every type of website you can need i have used them for a good 7 - 8 years and never once had a problem and they are there to help within the day via email
  • Thanks all for you suggestions, all sound well worth looking into. I suppose I want my cake and eat it - I want to set a website up, easily, quickly and cheaply, but if it works (ie I sell enough stuff!) I'll spend a little more on something a lot more professional (maybe!)
