Accelerator Pedal Fault?

Just looking for a bit of advice here on this; We have a 53 plate Ibiza and was only MOT'd in December which it passed fine - today a light came up on the dash saying EPC, the manual says this means an Accelerator Pedal Fault, the manual gives no insight into the problem just says it should be taken for repair. The car is running fine and the accelerator itself seems to be working as usual.

Obviously don't really want to be paying out for it to be check out by the garage unless necessary so just looking for a bit of an insight into this, has anyone else had any experience of this etc...

  • These chuck the EPC light on for other reasons aswell....... Check the brake lights are working... A Duff brake light switch will light the EPC up aswell.

On most modern cars the accelerator pedal isn't actually connected to a cable anymore and is merely an electronic device which senses its position and sends it to the ECU. If it were faulty then as a driver, you'd feel no difference.

Need to get the ecu scanned using vag com ( cheap of ebay for the shareware version) or ask on a dedicated site, or pay a garage.

A bulb would put a different light on, and the ABS issue is the ESP light, not EPC.
