My PDF's won't keep the right page orientation - help

At work I regularly type documents in Word where the pages are a mix of portrait and landscape and then need to convert them to PDFs (sending them through our network to an Adobe Distiller I think!) .
However when we view the converted files the pages are all turned to the same orientation.
Is there something I am missing or is there a way that my landscape pages stay landscape and the portrait stay portrait without having to turn my head round every time
