Shared Bottled Gas Supply

Hi
Can anyone advise? We rent a flat and a new woman has moved downstairs. She claims to be living alone but there are three people permanently hanging around the flat even when she is at work.
Recently she came to complain to us that the heating was off and she was freezing. On investigation we realised that the gas bottle was nearly empty - for the second time in two days. We both work full time so don't have the heating on all that much.
Do we have to pay for additional gas bottles when the supply is shared between the two flats as we aren't using it? I went to the letting agency who said they would 'sought it' but in the meantime I don't fancy paying out to keep people warm who aren't even supposed to be living at the property.
Many thanks in advance

What did the letting agency tell you about the heating / gas supply and costs? Because it is a highly unusual arrangement.
Does the downstairs tenant rent through the same agent?A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Get the landlord to put in a meter for each flat?0

i'd get the landlord / letting agency to put a meter on both flats, and a secure place for the gas bottles you payed for so they don't get used by anyone else.0

Not only is it a most unusual set up to share a bottle bewteen two properties ...
Not only is is a most unusual set up to not have 2 bottles so that you don't actually run out of gas
But a typical 47kg cylinder of propane contains about 650kWh of energy. I can't see any flat using that amount in a day. ... on average almost 28kWh per hour, every hour of the day.
650kWh lasted us about a whole week during the very bitter minus 15C temperatures last month ... and this is a large house."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
