Why does itunes struggle to copy last part of cd?

Own quite a few mix compilations which take to fill out near maximum of what a cd can hold so common around the 78 or 79 minute mark. I seem to find that whenever I rip these into itunes the last 1 or 2 tracks struggle to get copied and when I play back on my ipod there are quite a few jumps, etc. CD's play perfectly fine in a normal cd player. Have played around with itunes settings a bit which improves slightly but doesn't always work. Have also retried to just copy the problem tracks, but again that doesn't always work. Just wondering if anyone else has similar issues or there are some common solutions to try?

Have you tried enabling 'error correction' under the import settings?

You could try ripping with WMP and see what happens. This will see whether or not it's iTunes causing the problem. If it still doesn't work it could be your optical drive in the pc is having trouble reading the edge of the disc (CDs read from inside to outside).
