recording camcorder to VHS tape

this is a bit 20th century, sorry, but can someone explain the cable configuration to record the film from a camcorder on to a VHS tape via the television, please.
I just plugged the camcorder in to the AV2 port on the telly, it shows on the screen, I selected record AV2 on the video recorder and got nothing.
Anyone suggest where my mistake is?

You need to connect the camcorder to the Video Recorder.0 -
