Yes that YHA is good, many rooms, and a good cafe. Very good value for money and a little pool on the roof, many different ages and well located.
I'd also do a search for a little holiday flat to rent near Bondi/Tamarama/Bronte beaches as a comparison. Sullivans hotel is available through many agents, so worth checking https://www.hotelscomparison.com and others for a good deal.

Wow, just looked at the YHA website, looks a geat place to stay. This is def on our list to look at more closely. Thanks for that martindow and richardw.

The hotels comparison website looks very useful too. I am confident that we'll find something to suit us.

This is more modest accommodation we stayed in - located on Cremorne Point and only 8 minutes by ferry to Circular Quay.

I see it's under new management and unfortunately no rates are shown on the website - but this time last year we paid 140 dollars per night for a double room and breakfast.

https://www.tripadvisor.com is the best place for hotel recs imho as the reviews are from actual travellers

I have looked at tripadvisor and as you say,Tom_Jones, they have reviews from actual travellers, although you can have two opposite opinions of the same hotel

If any help we stayed at the Leisure Inns Park Regis Hotel in CBD whilst in Sydney last Nov. Cant tell you the rates as it was all in with our flights ( but we were on a tight budget). Great friendly staff there, & fantastic views from roof top. Rooms had just been refurbished & were lovely. Great for location, we walked everywhere. Only prob was a bit traffic noise from street, but after a few beers it didnt bother me.
I put a bit on trip advisor hotel website.
Gud luck & wish we were going back this year but hopefully return visit in 2008.

Will be in Sydney next October :j and would like recommendations for a hotel. We're in our 50's but are fit and active ;) so don't mind if we're within walking distance of the popular areas (although I believe the public transport system is good?).

Good value for money is what we're looking for, mid-range/price. Don't want budget and can't afford luxury.

    Thanks in advance.
Just got back from Sydney, stopped at the Southern Cross , good value for money. ( We are 50 Something too)

Just checked their website (and your comments on tripadvisor) and the rates seem very reasonable, this will go on our list.

    Thanks

Weymouth Man - have looked at this hotel before as a possibility but can't get any rates yet for when we want to visit. We will keep trying though.
  • Hi GiJo, We booked through Austravel, had the studio apartment at Darling Harbour.
