hi
off to the south of france soon and looking for a hotel about an hours drive from calais to recharge before the long haul that awaits us. would rather stay near the motorway. we have booked a tea time crossing and think we will make it an hour before it gets dark.
looked at formulae1 1 star good price but no idea what they are really like.

Formule1 are very basic, clean hotels close to the motorways usually and we've always found them good value. They have a double bed with a single above it, tv in the room and a basin. The showers/toilets are on the corridor but in my experience are clean and tidy. Breakfast is extra and is bread and jam, orange juice, hot chocolate, tea and coffee on an all you can eat basis.
If you want/need en-suite then I think etap is the next one up in price and may be en-suite.Bern :j0 -
Not a concrete box hotel and will cost you more than a French Travelodge equivalent but well worth it;

lovely - but not really a 'stop off' place - more an 'enjoy a couple of nights' place surely?Bern :j0

Although Formula 1 is good value they do not have restaurants and this will mean that you need to find somewhere to eat as well. Campanile and Ibis are not as cheap but do have restaurants
If you want to avoid chain hotels try logis de France or look at a map and google towns that seem to fit your route0 -
