When to sow tomatoes (windowsill) - too early?

Resist temptation! Even though I have a frost-free greenhouse and a heated propagator, I wouldn't dream of putting tomatoes out there for a while yet - and I'm in the 'balmy' South.
Getting seeds started is the easy bit, but there's plenty of time yet for long, cold days with low light levels. Last year I sowed mine in early March and they did very well. I really doubt sowing significantly earlier would have achieved much, other than increased anxiety when the weather was bad.0 -
14th Feb here for me (tomatoes known as love apples in europe is a little reminder), these are for the unheated greenhouse, and will be pricked out and brought on, until they go into their final big pots on the first May Bank Holiday.
Extras can be grown until end of March/early April, and they should catch up. Later sowings are better for outdoor crops, as you don't need to worry about how to keep the plants happy without going leggy, also outdoor crops will be pinched out after 6 or so trusses whereas I just leave the greenhouse ones to ramble until the end of August.0 -

are the lids still on?
You take off the lid when the seed has germinated and you need to keep turning them towards the light.
Also, turn any bottom heat off once they have germinated.
Tomatoes can be submerged when repotted, they will root from the stems.0 -
Going to do chillis. peppers and aubergines next weekend after the Lidl seeds go on sale. Will chance a few toms to see if the seeds left from last year are still viable. Found some broad beans and peas so may stick some of those in as well. Already got herbs on the window sill.
Love it ali x
