Best mobile phone coverage in Belfast

Just thought I'd check with other mse's from Belfast as to what is the best mobile network for coverage in Belfast (in particular South Belfast).

I use my phone quite alot and 3G coverage is a must (I use my phone to surf the net, YouTube etc).

I'm currently on 3 but the coverage has got quite bad recently. O2's data coverage from experience was shocking also.

Tempted by vodafone but I'd like to hear people's experiences before deciding for sure.

Cheers everyone

  • I was with Orange for years and never had any problems around Belfast, but I changed to Vodafone a couple of years ago when my sister moved to the country and the only network that worked at her house was Vodafone. I've been very happy with the coverage so far.

I have heard quite a few people complain about O2!
  • I have been with Vodafone for years and have been very happy with their coverage. Mind you I have nothing to compare it with. I live in Belfast and save a small area in Four Winds Park I can't remember having any real issues with it.:)

    Hi Simples23,

If you are unsure of what the coverage would be like on Vodafone, you can check it using your postcode here.

    Hope this helps!

Well what the coverage maps say and people's experiences of the network aren't always the same...according to 3's coverage map my 3 signal should be fantastic - it's not.

Take the Vodafone postcode checker witha pince of salt. It says I shoul have excellent coverage, but I was with Vodafone for two years and reception at home and surrounding area was awful.
Vodafone coverage is fine in Belfast (but so is O2)
My tip is to get some-one you know who is on one of the networks you are considering and check thieir reception at your home before you sign up to anything.

The postcode checkers are a waste of time in my experience. O2 show my postcode as having fairly good coverage. In reality it is virtually non-existent. No signal at all most of the time in my home. I have also found that different phones (on the same network) can give various strengths of signal in the same location, so it seems to me that it also depends on the antennas within each particular phone. Not an easy problem to resolve. I think Carphone Warehouse have a new policy where if you find your phone does not work in your home, you can return it within something like 14 days, and they will apparently move you to a different network. I do not have any connection(excuse the pun) with CPW or the mobile phone industry.
