my cat has just come in from his outdoor foot patrol and is meowing in pain on closer inspection his face (cheek) has a gash about half inch long, by 2-3 mill deep by about 1/2 CM wide, he also has a smaller cut under this on his chin, he's trying to scratch it and everytime he cathes it he leeps around the house causing some damage, ive tried getting him in one room but i go near him he hisses and his claws come out, i'm not wrestling with this puddy tat he's huge!! and very powerfull (past incidents still have scars on hands and arms) he's not dripping blood everywhere, but the wound is an open wound, do i try and dress it?? wich means 20 pairs of long sleeve jumpers! 4 people to hold him still and stress him out further wich i dont want to do? pooor guy just dunno what to do no 24hour vet near by either?

Have you rung the vet?
I would make this your first point of call. He is obviously in pain so I would think he needs medical attention.
ETA: If you cannot get hold of him to clean it/check it closely, I would lock him in overnight and keep an eye until the morning, then decide.“When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we took so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened up for us”

I apologise for my lack of thanks, my button is not working.

If there's no 24 hour vet and the cat is stressed I think the best you can do is to leave it be somewhere quiet until you can find a vet that's open. No emergency PDSA or RSPCA place nearby? I wouldn't advise using anything on the wounds as some things which are beneficial to humans can be toxic to animals. If it will let you near it you could just bathe the wounds in cooled boiled water but it sounds like the poor cat is too frightened to tolerate that.0

there is no 24 hour vet near us but most vets will respond to an emergency of a registered client. Might involve a journey to an unfamiliar surgery if they work in a reciprocal arrangement with other practices , and sadly it will be more expensive but it sounds necessary.0

He needs treatment. You can't even keep him still as he's going mad from the pain, and you're asking us what to do?
Get on Google and search for vets. Keep phoning until you find one open.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

I thought all vets had an emergency number, you ring them up (preferably yours i'd say) and if they are not open there will be an answerphone message with an emergency number to call?
Good luck op2 angels in heaven :A0 -
Agree ,sorry that it may cost you but-your cat needs to be seen.(am still recovering from vets bill for cat attacked by another in november.):(
What happened?Is your cat ok?0 -
Have you tried wrapping him carefully in a big bath towel so you can get a good look at his injuries? That is how we have dealt with 'claws out' cats in the past. The difficult bit is getting close enough to get the towel over them - a little treat can help if they are food motivated, but not all cats are.
Just try to stay calm yourself & talk to him calmly- if you are stressed he will pick up on that and not let you close!
As has been said, if you can't get to a vet tonight, keep him in one room and try to calm him down as best you can, either through quiet talking, favourite treats or leaving him to himself and take him to the vet in the morning.
Sounds like he may have been in a fight - does he still have all his 'bits'?
Good luck, I hope kitty isn't too badly hurt!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
he's clamed down allot now, it looks like a trajectory wound to me ( one hole smaller then the other skin in wound 1 goes inwards while the hole 2 looks like somthing burst out his face with a hole inside linking the both together.) ive seen a few pellet holes in my time living in an area that has this kind of problem year in year out.
hopfully he'll be seen soon. emergency vet is going to ring back hopfully can arrange a vet surgery near by to be opened, after hours of waiting to get through everyone i spoke to is either miles and miles away or the vet is in surgery and cant help managed to get hold of a private cat sanctuary and she has passed her the number of her emergency vet and she's getting back to me.
sadly no he hasnt got his bits anymore they were taken years ago lol, he is bigger than most cats ive seen, build of and hight of a maincoon not as long furr though abd black and white. think you call them turkish van.0 -
ok he's been seen after no one got back to me yesterday. he has a severely infected wounds that has gone through to his glands, gums, ear,and eye.
there is a definate clean cut small hole linking both wounds and vet has same opinion as me its not a bite its a pellet wound! (this will be the third time in two years he been shot).
the infection in his ear may have an impact on his hearing also. spent £125.00 this morning in large dose of antibiotics injections, painkillers injection, anti back solution and swabs, blood tests.
his pherimone glands in his cheek have clogged up with infection causing abcuss's so he needs on operation to remove the gland (there also a hard lump attached to the bone in his cheek near one of the holes mabye a previous pellet?), clean away the infection an stitches to resew his cheek back together. been quoted £250-£350 depending on how many stitches he will need and if theres a pellet imbedded in his bone but she did also state that this maybe a bit of bone itself in wich case she will leave it there as there will be no need to remove.
blood tests are for lead poisoning, felv, fiv, liver, bone, kidneys and if the infection has traveled into his blood stream will have results back in morning about same time as the op so she said.0 -
Poor cat.How disgusting, wish they would ban air guns(well, all guns really, but that's just my opinion) or at least have far stricter controls. It is also so unfair you have to pay out so much to repair the damage.
Next door to my mums bungalow,a 91 year old had her window broken by an air pellet fired through it a few days ago.Straight into her bedroom.Obvious to anyone that they are old people's bungalows. How much lower can these morons sink?0
