Paypal transactions not covered by credit card companies?

Hi. I've just read a discussion on the eBay forum, where a member has warned that credit card payments made via paypal are not covered in the same way as high street transactions.
That is to say that a credit card issuer would not engage on my behalf, if I tried to reclaim my funds from paypal.
I always made my paypal payments by credit card, as I always believed this offered much better peace of mind than making a payment from a bank transfer. However, it seems this is not the case.
Do some credit card companies offer protection on paypal?
Does anyone know which ones?
Does anyone know if the Post Office credit card offers any such protection?

You are covered by the PayPal system.
If you use any 'third party' to pay a retailer / person you will be bound by that company's policy not your credit card.These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0 -

PayPal *is* a third party though.
Your issuer's liability extends as far as funding your paypal account.
They are not liable for the onward payment.0
