DVLA / Intercredit woes! They've replied to my first letter

  • Hi there,
Just wanted to post my experience with them. I had the fine for apparently not declaring my car sorn over 2 years ago. First letter I sent them was demanding proof of instruction that the DVLA had asked them to pursue me, proof that they had to back up this claim, and proof they had a legal right to collect money on behalf of the DVLA. They sent me another letter threatening legal action again. My last and final letter to them said if they continued to contact me without giving me the requested information I asked for I would file a complaint against them with the OFT (Office of Fair Trading.) After that I never received anything else...
2 months later I received a letter from a different company asking for the original £80 fine. ICI Ltd had obviously given up and sold the debt on.
I now have a generic letter that I send to any new debt collector stating what I wanted above in terms of proof.
I have not heard back from this new company yet, its been 3 weeks.
My advice...stand your ground, threaten them with the OFT, after 3/4 different debt collectors threaten the DVLA with harassment.
ICI Ltd said to me on the phone at the beginning that they cannot supply any proof/evidence and send it to me, apparently its not how they operate. In legal terms, if they cannot back up a case, they dont have a case. This is why they gave up with me. They did not even bother trying to take me to court...why?...it was not worth the cost and they had nothing to support the claim.
PM me if you want anything else.
They are all chance takers, dont pay them, stand your ground, its not worth their time and effort to take you to court. And in the end you can hold the DVLA for harassment charges.

I too need some help with these people...

In 2009 the DVLA didn't send me my car tax renewal (and no, I didn't notice as I was severly ill at the time), my car was towed for parking untaxed on a road... but I paid the fine, had it released and paid the extra penalty to the DVLA. Today I received the letters as you all have, saying that I have ignored previous ones blah blah blah....

I paid the fine, I have kept the payment reference number the DVLA gave me. Why are they picking on me? :(

I'm really not a happy bunny, I don't have a spare £80 this month for scammers. Some people on here say its not worth calling the DVLA if they have passed it to intercredit. What do I do?

And is this going to affect my credit history???
