Ive just gone into my pictures and all my pictures have gone and documents. I had word open yesterday and i went to open file on the recently used documents bit and said fie was `corrupt.`
Lucky enough theres no photos of great importance, but im in middle of a course and lost some important portfoilio work .
My recycle bin still has stuff in it.
Ive virus checked with AVG, and used a McAfee one suggested in a a thread on this board and no threats or virus found with either. Ive attempted to restore aswell, but says there isn`t any restore points available.
Has my laptop slowly meeting its death or is it repairable damage?
Thanks in advance

Have you tried opening the actual file in my documents or wherever you store them?Has my laptop slowly meeting its death or is it repairable damage?
No it simply seems like there has been some non-specific problem (maybe the machine was powered down as it was saving the files), so it should be ok. In the future, you should use something like dropbox.com so that anything vitial is not lost. you install it, keep all of your work in your dropbox (which is simply a blue folder) and it's backed up online (and is also available to any other machine you install dropbox on).0 -

The fact that you are unable to do a Sys Restore indicates to me that something else is wrong. How full is your hard drive?
Neither AVG nor McAfee are reliable AV programs. No free lunch, and no free laptop

System restore won't recover documents, it just restores the operating system (files and registry) to a specific point in time.
To be honest, if the contents of your My Docs and My pics are gone, then that is rather worrying, and needs looking at.
There are a number of things that could cause this - hard drive corruption, virus, accidental deletion or drag/drop, corrupt profile - your docs & pics are part of your user profile, so if it gets corrupt it will create a blank one, but leave the other there unused, with all your stuff in it.
Try using the search facility to search the whole hard drive for specific documents that have gone - you could get lucky
As suggested previously, scanning with Recuva will look for anything that has been deleted.
After that, I would do a full hard drive check by downloading the drive manufacturers diagnostic boot CD. This won't get your files back, but it will tell you if the drive needs replacing, and hopefully avoid a repeat performance.0
