Poor quality hd on freeview

Just bought Humax Fox HD T2 pvr and viewing on full HD (1080p) Panasonic tv. The picture quality on HD (all 4 available freeview hd channels)is poor, with Ch 4 being slightly better, and non as good as viewing sd through freeview.
New outside arial put up 1 year ago.
Any suggestions as to how I can get good HD picture.:(

A lot depends upon where you are and what transmitter you're getting your HD from. I live in the Midlands where we're currently getting our HD from a temporary transmitter near Lichfield and won't get 'proper' HD until switchover next year when it moves on to the Sutton Coldfield transmitter, so it's very variable for us at the moment.

There are some good maps, forums and information on the following website which may give you some idea of whether you're supposed to be receiving a decent signal at the moment.

In my region, the digital switchover happens on 31st March. After that date, the digital TV transmitters will be able to transmit at a higher power as they will not then affect any analogue signal.
My point is that the higher power is (rightly or wrongly) being touted as a panacea for digital TV reception woes that people have today, and it may be true.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)

As spike intimated, are you using an HDMI cable to connect the Hummy to the TV?

Is the Humax set to output 1080i?

Not all programmes on the HD channels are in HD.
On Sky the EPG highlights which are by displaying them in orange, dunno what freeview HD does.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Is your aerial properly aligned on a transmitter broadcasting Freeview HD (which it won't have been doing a year ago when the aerial was fitted). It could be on a local relay?

You should in theory get a good picture. the picture may be unscaled to your tv as its only 1080i I believe freesat/sky also broadcast in 1080i only in hd channels

It could be where you are or possible your aerial or setup isnt right
