Hi All

We have booked a big house in Llandudno for all the family in August. I like to be organised but am coming up blank with things to do while we are there. The only thing I have found so far is the railway and Great Orme??

Please help! There are 10 of us in total....

5 Adults, a stroppy 17 yr old, a 9 yr old, 2 x 4yr olds and a 2yr old!

We are hoping teh weather will be nice (fingers and toes are crossed) but we need things to do when it's nice and if it's not so nice so all suggestions will be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Hi Debs, I am from the Llandudno area. The kids might like the ski centre on the side of the Great Orme. They can try skiing, snowboarding, sno tubing etc. The little ones can go on the toboggan but may have to be accompanied. They also have things like adventure golf there and they serve nice drinks in the ski lodge for the grown ups! There is a farm in the town too that the little ones might like, they can rides on tractors and feed the animals. As well as the tram going up the Great Orme there is also a cable car and there are copper mines that you can go in to.
Conwy is close by (about 10 mins by car) and they have things like a castle, smallest house in Britain, Elizabethan town house, suspension bridge. In Conwy you can walk along the town walls for free and it gives a really good view of the town and over the estuary. They do boat rides from Conwy too.
I actually work in tourism and there is loads to do in the area. Give the tourist info a call on 01492 577577 and they will post some leaflets to you.
    Hope that helps!

    Here's a few other ideas -

    Great Orme Mines - www.greatormemines.info/

    Cable Cars - www.attractionsnorthwales.co.uk/.../llandudno-cable-car

    Bodafon Farm Park - bodafonfarmpark.com/

Dry Ski Slope & Toboggan Run - www.jnlllandudno.co.uk/

    Ten Pin Bowling - www.attractionsnorthwales.co.uk/.../llandudno-superbowl

    Swimming Pool - http://www.conwy.gov.uk/sectionextra.asp?cat=6464

Mostyn Art Gallery - www.mostyn.org/ (May not be to everyone's taste but it's in the town centre and more importantly it's free admission)

Venue Cymru - http://www.venuecymru.co.uk/search.php?sid=d57784a5c0d50f9ff620612a8db7753d&page=0&mode=whatson (This is the local theatre which attracts some big name shows but tickets aren't cheap)

Pier - the-pier.co.uk/llandudno-pier (Nobody visits Llandudno and doesn't take at least one stroll down the pier).

    Llandudno Museum - http://www.conwy.gov.uk/doc.asp?cat=776&doc=1582

Home Front Experience (World War II Museum) - www.homefrontmuseum.co.uk/

Parc Llandudno - http://www.tentopllandudno.co.uk/shopping/Parc-Llandudno.html (Retail park with Debenhams, BHS, Next, Monsoon, New Look, River Island plus more which is located just on the edge of the town centre)

Marine Drive Tour - www.greatorme.org.uk/marinedrive.html(Bus trip around the Orme, starts next to pier entrance)

West Shore Beach - llandudno-west-shore-beach.wales.info/ (This is quieter but far more scenic beach and in my opinion much better than the North Shore beach where most people head to. Get there using the Land Train - llandudnoboattrips.co.uk/landtrain.aspx)

Boat trips around the bay - llandudnoboattrips.co.uk/

The following are all within a fifteen minute drive or so of Llandudno -

Conwy Castle - http://www.cadw.wales.gov.uk/default.asp?id=6&PlaceID=55 (The town of Conwy is about four miles from Llandudno and well worth a visit)

Welsh Mountain Zoo (Colwyn Bay) - www.welshmountainzoo.org/

    Bodnant Gardens - www.bodnant-garden.co.uk/

Conwy Valley Railway Line - I'd recommend a trip from Llandudno to Betws-y-Coed. This will take you down the Conwy Valley line which must be one of the most scenic in the country. It's about 40 minutes each way and £5.10 return for an adult so probably cheaper than a coach trip and probably by August cheaper than going by car! Just make sure you plan your times in advance as trains only run every couple of hours or so.)

RSPB Nature Reserve Llandudno Junction - www.rspb.org.uk › ReservesReserves by nameCConwy

    Cineworld Llandudno Junction - www.cineworld.co.uk/cinemas/42

My two girls liked the Alice in Wonderland place in Trinity Square. It's only a small place but kept them occupied for a couple of hours.

Edit: I've read somewhere that this place might now be closed?

The Alice in Wonerland Centre has closed now but if it's good weather when you stay, there is an Alice trail in Happy Valley gardens on the side of the Orme nr the Ski slope. Nice to have a picnic there in the summer

My brother and I wrote our names in stones on Great Orme back in 1982. You could go and find them for me; that will take a good few hours!
  • Wow! Thanks everyone so much! Will definitely have lots to do now!

We are all really looking forward to the holiday, it will be the first one together since before the 3 younger kiddies came along!
