Bought faulty TV from Currys, need help

I dont think members are being overhasty, the OP can try to take them to small claims, but in all reality, OP has been offered a full refund, thats the highest offer the store can offer. There is no way the store will repair the item if the repair costs more than the set. The set was bought as an end of line bargain, which means it is sold as it is seen, without any warranties. The store has offered the customer the maximum value, that being a full refund.
OP might not like the idea that they are not obliged to send it off or replace it with a brand new set, just as you might not like the idea that this is the most the OP is likely to get. Unfortunately, thats just the way it is, either a refund from the store, or OP can send it off for repair and pay for it themselves.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I cannot buy the exact remote control for this TV from Argos. I could have bought one of those remote that works on many TV's from Argos but i wanted the original correct remote not tat
You were hoping to have a cheap TV. Which is fair enough. You thought originally that it was only missing its remote control unit. You thought by obtaining a remote from elsewhere that you could still have a cheap TV. That's fair enough too.
In actuality you obtained the remote control unit and discovered that the TV was faulty. Therefore you took the TV back to the retailer ans they offered to return you to your precontractual state. That's fair enough.
In doing all of this you took a gamble, and it has not, on this occasion paid off.0 -
Quite right, it is an unfair comparison. Unfair to Arthur Daley that is...;)
What brand is this TV? If it's a Korean badged-up job-lot, then the parts will not even be available even if they wanted to repair it.
Just be glad that it broke while still in warranty.
The TV is made by Toshiba0 -
You can usually tune a TV without a remote.0

Maybe i'm not getting through to you or you need to learn what gamble means. The definition of gamble is 'to play at any game of chance for money or other stakes'.
Buying a TV from a store is not a gamble, i expect it to work
You remind me of an old cockney rhyming slang song "When the onus is so obscure then the recipient is so devoured"0 -
Just to update you all. Had a phone call from Currys and they are going to fix my telly. What joy. Exactly what i wanted, a £200 telly bought brand new for £70. Be persistent, stick to your guns, dont take no for an answer, make a scene in the shop and it pays off. I knew exactly what i was doing and just wanted to shaft Currys0

I'm sure you do expect that when you buy a TV from a store that it will work. We all expect that. But it didn't for you and so you took it back and you were reimbursed. I think that is reasonable. You obviously don't. You obviously expect to be put in a better position than you were before you decided to buy the TV. I think that you are asking too much. You obviously don't agree with me. Since you clearly know your own mind and what you want and expect from this then why have you bothered to procure the opinion of others on here?0 -
Marmite, you are now being arrogant. You have your money back. You cannot realistically ask for anymore. Just accept that you have gone as far as you are likely to with this one.
Just draw a line under it and buy another TV.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
You certainly are getting through to me. What you are saying is that you saw the potential for a bargain from Curry's by buying a clearance item that may have turned out good. In the event it didn't, and this is probably why it was offered at a ridiculously low price. Now you are effectively saying that you want Curry's to replace it with one that is fully intact and brand new. If there was the possibility of that, then Curry's would have had the boxed item on sale at the normal price, and certainly not at £69.99.

I can't say I disagree with any of this. The OP has, effectively, made a profit on the deal which seems slightly disingenuous to me. Yes, we all want a bargain, but what's happened here is stretching the point.
I suspect Curry's caved in simply to avoid the hassle/aggro. If the TV was a top of the range one costing megabucks and reduced to say, £1,500, I would be amazed if Curry's capitulated in this way.0 -

Yes I fully agree with you. I suspect that Curry's have not capitulated in the way Marmite has described. I'm starting to think that Marmite is a bit of a wind-up merchant.0
